Domain Name Validity & Renewal

How long is a domain name valid?
A domain name is usually registered for one year, but you can extend it for up to 10 years at a time. Once the registration period ends, you must renew the domain to keep ownership. If you don’t, it will eventually become available for others to purchase.

Domain Renewal with tandohost.co.za

When you purchase a domain through ttandohost.co.za the Auto-Renew feature is activated by default. This means an invoice will be generated automatically when your renewal is due.

  • If you pay using Debit or Credit Card, the renewal will process automatically.
  • If you don’t want your domain to renew, you can simply disable Auto-Renew in your account settings.

Keep in mind: Even if you disable auto-renewal, ICANN will still send out mandatory renewal notifications.

⚠️ Important: The domain owner is always responsible for tracking and renewing their domain before it expires.

Expiry, Grace & Redemption Periods

If your domain isn’t renewed:

  1. Grace Period – Many registrars provide a short grace period after expiry where you can renew at the normal rate.
  2. Redemption Period – After the grace period, the domain enters redemption. You can still renew it, but a redemption fee will be charged on top of the renewal cost.
  3. Release to Public – If you don’t renew during redemption, the domain becomes available for anyone else to register.
